Rudard Jones (1913-2005) graduated in 1936. He majored in Architectural Engineering and worked in the Ricker Library and as a waiter. He said he needed the extra money in the Depression. He was a member of the Phi Eta Sigma honorary society, and he received the Alpha Rho Chi professional honor metal.
Ruth Kuhn Youngerman (1914-2021) was a member of the Class of 1935. She studied Economics and attended graduate school for business. Ruth joined the Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority, but she was not very active in it. Finally, Ruth said she did not experience discrimination as a Jewish student.
Sam Siner transferred from Harvard to U of I in fall 2007, and immediately knew that was the right decision. He lived and later worked at Allen Hall, leading orientation and becoming a program advisor. In this interview, he discusses higher education, programming at Allen Hall, and student life.
Dr. Shaciarra Hamilton, a Clinical Counselor at the University's Counseling Center, grew up in rural Mississippi, attended Grambling State University in Louisiana for undergrad, and moved to Urbana-Champaign during the covid-19 pandemic after completing her doctorate in psychology. In the interview, she discusses the need for more inclusive spaces for BIPOC queer people and describes her experience with building community in town.
