In this 1961 letter to Associate Director for Public Service Departments Lucien W. White, Music Librarian Thor E. Wood summarizes the main points of his first Music Library Annual Report. Wood describes the recent major expansion of the collection, nearly doubling in size since 1959, a number of new programs, and the growing need for increased space for both shelving and listening areas.

In this letter, Music Librarian William McClellan explains to Director of the School of Music Thomas Fredrickson that the Music Education division has decided to abandon plans for a new Instructional Materials Center, citing that the current division of responsibilities between the Music Education Curriculum Laboratory and the Music Library with regard to managing instructional materials is satisfactory in its current state.

In this letter, Bruno Nettl expresses his strong reservations about the transformation of the Music Library into a Music and Performing Arts Library, citing the already existing need to expand the space for the music library collections, and the apparent lack of clarity as to whether this project would be undertaken before the move to the new music building.

This note from Director of Technical Services Robert L. Talmadge is in response to the recently submitted proposal for a Performing Arts Library at the University of Illinois. Talmadge reports a positive review and submits additional questions for the Performing Arts Library Committee to answer.
