"Alma Mater" actually refers to two different Illinois songs, both written in the early 1900s. The first was arranged by R. G. Mills in 1903 and was included in the first edition of the University of Illinois Song Book. The second version of Alma Mater was written by R.E. and A. E. Holch in 1912, and replaced the older "Alma Mater" in later editions of the University of Illinois Song Book.
