75th Anniversary
On September 6th, 2019, the Music and Performing Arts Library held an open house to celebrate its 75th anniversary. Founded as the Music Library in 1944 in Smith Hall, it relocated and expanded to the new Music Building in 1974. Dance materials were added to the collection in 2004 and theatre materials in 2008, at which point the Music Library became the Music & Performing Arts Library.
The open house had over 70 attendees. There were several activities and giveaways, refreshments, a display of notable items in our collection, an exhibit covering the history of MPAL, and demonstrations of the player piano. There was also a trivia contest and one lucky winner took home a copy of The Beatles Anthology.
