Carl Sandburg: Midwestern Poet, Biographer, Journalist, and Musician

This exhibit examines the life and work of Carl Sandburg, an Illinois-born poet, biographer, journalist, and folk musician. His most notable works include the poetry collections Chicago Poems (1916) and Cornhuskers (1918), the children’s book Rootabaga Stories (1922), and his six-volume biography of Abraham Lincoln. Sandburg is known as “the poet of the people;” in all of his work, he was dedicated to showing the realities of midwestern and American life.
