Description

This is the only extensive work on South America by an Englishman of the period. Ellen Cotes (fl. 1653-70?) was the widow of Richard Cotes (fl. 1635-52). John Sweeting (fl. 1639-61) was a bachelor bookseller who sold mostly poetry and popular literature.

Likewise, his journey from Mexico, through the provinces of Guaxaca, Chiapa, Guatemala, Vera Paz, Truxillo, Comayagua; with his abode twelve years about Guatemala ... As also his strange and wonderfull conversion and calling from those remote parts, to his native countrey. With his return through the province of Nicaragua, and Costa Rica to Nicoya, Panama, Portobelo, Cartagena, and Havana ... Also, a new and exact discovery of the Spanish navigation to those parts: and of their dominions, government, religion, forts ... behaviour of Spaniards, priests and friers ... Indians; and of their feasts and solemnities. With a grammar, or some few rudiments of the Indian tongue, called Poconchi, or Pocoman. The 2d ed. enlarged by the author, and beautified with maps.
